Sunshine Coaches are specially equipped vehicles that provide safe, accessible transport for schools and community organisations supporting children facing barriers due to disability, illness, financial hardship or distance.
Funded through community support and partnerships, these vehicles help ensure children can get to the moments that matter - from school and therapy to excursions, sport and social activities.
A Sunshine Coach is a long-term transport solution provided to eligible organisations, enabling them to safely transport children who may otherwise miss out. Many vehicles are fitted with wheelchairaccessible features, ensuring children of all abilities can travel together safely, comfortably and with dignity.
What does the program support?
Sunshine Coaches help children access everyday experiences that are essential to learning, development and connection. This includes getting to school, attending therapy appointments, participating in excursions and joining community or recreational activities.
Why Sunshine Coaches matter
For many families and communities - particularly in regional and remote areas - transport can be a major barrier to participation.
Sunshine Coaches remove that barrier, helping children feel included, connected and part of the same opportunities as their peers.
More than transport, they create access to experiences that build confidence, independence and a sense of belonging.
How the program works
Sunshine Coaches are provided to schools and not-for-profit organisations through Variety WA, with the support of donors, partners and the broader community.
Each vehicle is used to support children over many years - making a long-term, practical difference where it’s needed most
